A moderately cool climate is suitable for Rabi onions. Lower temperatures are required during the initial growth stage, while higher temperatures are needed during bulb formation; dry and clear weather is essential at the time of harvest.
The crop requires an ideal temperature range of 15°C to 30°C for overall development, with sowing best performed at 25°C to 30°C and harvesting conducted at a cooler 15°C to 20°C. Adapts to sandy loam to clay soils.
Temperate crop requiring moderate temperature (< 25–28°C, optimum 20°C) during growth. Requires higher temperature for vegetative phase and cool/clear sky for reproduction. Thrives best on light loam soils with neutral pH.
